Modena, 6 May 2024 – Well the unsealing of around twenty car parks gardens for the elderly in the area, but it could have been done sooner, there was no need to wait for the electoral campaign. The poisonous dig comes from the ‘Villaggio Europa’ Committee Sacca neighborhood.
“We note with satisfaction the further unsealing of approximately around twenty car parks in the area of vegetable gardens for the elderly of Via Europa. The neighborhood committee, for 3 years, has been loudly asking for an urban planning variation to the Conad project so that green mitigation is provided to protect the healthiness of the residences from smog and trucks from the access square to the Conad logistics hub. It will be necessary to verify the council’s resolution to better understand the ways in which this change will be carried out”. It is useless, however, continues the committee, “to hide the fact that this change could have been made for some time: all it took was political will, which is now found in the electoral campaign”.
The residents then intend to clarify one aspect “to this administration and to the one to come: the projects are made with an overall vision of the neighborhood and for the well-being of the citizens, not just of the consortia or companies. We would have preferred that via Europa remained open, as explained in our observations at the Conference of the Services and that the passage for the greengrocers was left from there”.
In via Europa furthermore “today heavy vehicles from production activities pass through narrow residential streets and with trucks that destroy walls and damage the road surface and which tomorrow, with the closure of the road, could cause further problems”.
In the end, for the vegetable garden area, the committee had requested “the construction of an embankment and the retreat of the Conad border. All this was denied due to the probable location and creation of car parks of the future Mosque which was to be built in the former Pro latte area. We have repeated several times to the administration that it was not wise or appropriate to decide the Conad project based on what, perhaps, Pro Latte would have received. We are awaiting responses from Councilor Vandelli to the email we sent her also for the Pro Latte area, to which we receive no response but only evasive replies. On April 22, as illustrated by the councilor, the CPC should have presented a project in line with the master plan presented in the press by the administration. Where have you been? What should we expect for that area? We ask for concreteness. After 3 bitter years for the Sacca, we therefore hope that the majority Party will give concrete, positive and edifying answers to the citizens and treat this neighborhood, and those who live there, with the respect it deserves”.
To applaud instead, the group leader of the Democratic Party Antonio Carpentieri has no reservations about the administration’s intervention: “We welcome the news of the modification approved by the municipal council with satisfaction. It is a positive step forward that improves the impact and quality of the urbanizations around the Conad project to the former Civ&Civ”. In recent months “we had brought and voted on a political motion in the City Council which councilor Vandelli and the Mayor grasped and implemented concretely by imposing on the private sector a change in the parking and greenery layout”. It is also “very positive that the citizens, the committee and the group of members of the gardens for the elderly were listened to by the administration with the aim of sharing the changes together and finding concrete solutions”.
