They have enthusiasm, participation and a great festive atmosphere
accompanied the last act of the Trieste Spring Run, an event organized by the APD
Miramar with the collaboration of Asd Trieste Atletica Aps, the co-organization of the Municipality
of Trieste and the patronage of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region. They took place in the morning of
today the competitions of the fourth edition of the event, born in the wake of the historic Bavisela,
which also this year animated the spaces of the city center between sport, art, environment and events
dedicated to the very young, building a 360° sporting event. Today it went in
the highlight of the day: the Trieste 21K, the most fascinating half marathon, is on the programme
of Europe with the sea always keeping the participants company for all 21.0975 km of the route,
the Trieste 21K Spring Roller Marathon, the Bavisela Family Run, and the novelty represented by
Solidarity relay by Dynamo Camp. A record edition with over 10,000
participants (6000 at the Family, 2500 at the Trieste 21K, 1500 at the Trieste Spring Young and 250 between
roller specialists and solidarity relay).
Queen of Sunday, in addition to the unmissable and exciting Bavisela Family Run, was the
Trieste 21K, from Duino to Piazza Unità. The Italian-Moroccan took the top step of the podium
Abdoullah Bamoussa (GP Livenza Sacile) and the Ethiopian, great favorite of the day before, Asmerawork
Bekele Wolkeba (Ethiopia, Asd Podistica Torino). Among the men, after the start, Bamoussa, capable
in his career to wear the blue jersey in the 3000 steeplechase at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics
2016, and the Kenyan Timothy Kimutai Kirui, have created a void behind them, launching themselves into a
great duel. Around halfway through the race, however, the Italian, born in 1986, decidedly increased his pace,
putting Run2gether’s opponent on the ropes and creating, within 3km, the decisive gap. To the
finish line Bamoussa triumphed with a time of 1h06:40, preceding Kirui (1h09:07) and
a convincing Alessio Milani (Atletica Monfalcone), who took great satisfaction from
reach the podium in the famous half marathon of the regional capital. The top five was
completed by the Moroccans Aziz Lakriti, 4th with a time of 1h11:29, and Radoine Ahmedy, 5th in
1h11:30, while the sixth position went to the Trieste player of Evinrude MuggiAtletica Andrea
Mauri (1h13:54). “I am satisfied with this performance – says Bamoussa immediately – and happy
for having entered my name in the Trieste 21K roll of honour. After this transition stage,
I will continue my journey towards the next marathon, the date is still to be defined, where I will want to go
significantly improve my best time of 2h21:00 (run in 2023).”
In the women’s competition, there was no story at all for the final success: the Ethiopian Asmerawork Bekele
Wolkeba proved to be head and shoulders above the competition by competing in a race in
solitary from the first to the last metre. The standard bearer of the Asd Podistica Torino has concluded her efforts
after 1h17:44, ahead of Erika Michielan (VeniceMarathon, 1h25:58) and the girl from Trieste, who
today he achieved one of the best results of his career, Gaia Tomassini who has
finished in third place with a time of 1h26:12. “I am very happy – explained Wolkeba – for
having raced in Trieste, on a spectacular route always in the company of the sea. Performance is not
I’ve been ill but the goal is to improve my condition in the next few weeks to race more and more
strong this summer.”
The 21.0975 km, designed between Duino and the center of Trieste, were also the scene of the second
edition of the 21K Trieste Spring Roller Marathon, organized in collaboration with Skating
Club Comina Asd. There were 250 wheel tightrope walkers who competed on the Trieste asphalt: if in the
the women’s race saw the dominance of Simona Spinozzi (Pat. Sambenedettesi, 36:23), at
the men’s final victory was fought out by four, in the sprint, with Paolo Nannini (Asd
Emilia Final Skating, 33:30) ahead of Carlo Scalera (ASD Inline) by a few tenths of a second
360), Gianluca Scalera (Asd Pat Pescara) and Mattia Selan (Asd Skating Club Cominca Asd),
forced to settle for the “wooden medal”. Sunday ended at 1.00 pm,
when the Wings for Life world marathon, the largest running charity event, started
in the world, created to raise awareness of spinal cord research. Participation was also made in Italy
using the appropriate App, accompanied by the voices of the travel blogger Giulia Lamarca and by
an icon of Italian basketball like Gigi Datome.
