Brawl on Friday evening in Piazza Vanvitelli. More than ten very young people were involved, armed with helmets and chairs recovered from bar tables. The images were sent by some residents to the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli and to the radio host Gianni Simioli, denouncing the increasingly critical situation for the safety of the hilly neighborhood due to the continuous quarrels and aggressions which are recorded in particular in the weekend.

“The nightlife in Vomero and the rest of the city is now out of control. Fights, attacks and stabbings break out everywhere. The protagonists are often very young people who for trivial reasons confront each other with unprecedented violence. The lack of controls by the police creates favorable terrain for these behaviors on the part of violent people who increasingly feel the certainty of remaining unpunished. Against this degeneration, we need tight controls especially at night and exemplary measures for those who leave the house armed, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and become the protagonist of scenes like those shown in the video”. This is the comment of MP Borrelli and Gianni Simioli.

Intensify controls

The lack of controls and safeguards in the Vomero nightlife areas at the weekend is under attack, despite the influx of a notable number of young people also coming from the peripheral neighborhoods of the city. “Although it is known that the vast majority of young people, especially minors, move around the Scarlatti, Vanvitelli, Luca Giordano, Piazza Fuga quadrilateral, the controls are not adequate. The mass of young people who stay especially on weekends are in fact left to their own cars -regulation” – declare deputy Borrelli and councilors Nasti and Bonetti. “We realize that the human resources of the police force, despite the proclamations of the Minister of the Interior, are limited. But it is equally true that they can be used in a more rational way. It is painful to see the Army garrison in Piazza degli Artisti, guarding a gap delimiting a traffic ban, while the pedestrian area of Via Scarlatti remains unprotected. After so many meetings and demonstrations, vigilance must be made permanent in the streets of the Vomero nightlife” conclude the exponents of Il Sole Che Laughs.
