A 25-year-old originally from Gambia was arrested in Como for attempted aggravated theft and threats, after being caught unhinging bicycles from a foreign car

Yesterday afternoon, a 25 year old young man, originally from Gambia, was arrested for attempted aggravated robbery. The episode occurred around 6.30 pm in via Regina Teodolinda, near the monumental cemetery of Howwhen some passers-by and motorists noticed the young man intent on unhinging two mountain bikes from the bike rack of a’parked foreign car.

The report reached the operations center of Como Police Headquarters via the single emergency number 112. The readiness of the citizens, who immediately alerted the authorities, allowed rapid intervention. Two police cars arrived on the scene within minutes, surprising the young man still intent on his attempted theft.

The 25-year-old, caught red-handed, was immediately taken into custody by the officers and taken to the police station for identification procedures. During preliminary investigations, it emerged that the vehicle from which he was trying to steal the bicycles belonged to one German familyarrived in Como for a holiday.

The officers, having collected the complaint from the owner of the car, also discovered that shortly before, in the same area, the young man had had a aggressive behavior towards other people. In particular, he had threatened and insulted a lady who had rebuked him for having harassed an ecological operator engaged in waste collection.

Informed of the facts, the Public Prosecutor on duty decided to proceed with the arrest of the 25-year-old and to send him straight to trial. The young man will now have to answer to charges of attempted aggravated robbery and threats.

This episode highlights the importance of collaboration between citizens and law enforcement to ensure public safety. The timeliness of the report and the effective intervention of the police made it possible to stop the suspect before he could complete the theft and quickly bring him to justice. The German family, victim of the attempted theft, was thus able to continue their holiday without further inconvenience, while the local authorities confirmed their commitment to the fight against crime.
