In 2013, he was awarded the title of Knight of San Silvestro by Pope Benedict XVI, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of medicine.

Professor Porziella expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to serve the Tuscan community and underlined the importance of his role in promoting traditional and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. One of his main objectives will be the development of a close collaboration with the department and the specialization school of the University Hospital of Pisa, with the aim of guaranteeing integrated management and excellent training.

Speaking of the future hospital in Livorno, Porziella expressed optimism regarding the design of a cutting-edge structure, responsive to the needs of the population and modern medical challenges. This new hospital will not only strengthen healthcare provision in the area, but will also offer a more sustainable environment, in line with the principles of environmental health.
