Gangmastering in Carpi, Mixed Group: “Clarification of the investigation” – SulPanaro

CARPI – Clarify the investigation that brought to light a criminal organization dedicated to gangmastering in the logistics sector in the Carpi area.

A question from the councilor asks this Mixed group addressed to the Region in which they ask “if this matter is not considered extremely worrying and, not surprisingly, in a sector, that of logistics, which at a regional level has grown disproportionately in recent years, characterized by a now structural precariousness, with outsourcing pushed to the max, ineffective protection rules and increasingly worse working conditions; unless a different approach is deemed necessary to combat these situations of widespread illegality that goes beyond the albeit acceptable protocols, agreements and charters”.

The investigation by the Modena police, coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, defeated a gang – arresting 20 people – called “Ak 47 Carpi” contesting the crimes of extortion, threats, personal injuries, money laundering and exploitation of illegal work through “gangmaster”. The group, made up of Pakistanis, also operated in Brescia and Piacenza. According to the accusations, some of those arrested would have threatened the illegal workers even with improper weapons – two of the suspects are accused of attempted murder – resulting in illicit profits of 1.5 million euros, according to investigations by the Financial Police. “Most of the suspects – we read in the question – would have been employees of a logistics services company linked to the transport of goods, with registered office in the Vicenza area, which would be unrelated to the criminal acts contested and which would have contracted the courier workforce within a well-known shipping company”. The investigations, continues the Gruppo Misto councilor, would have revealed “a collaborative relationship with a joint-stock company operating in the logistics sector, which would have allowed the members of the association to fuel a lucrative ‘corporal’ activity with a heavy framework of intimidation and violence and the obligation, for victims hired as couriers, to pay a large part of their wages to members of the gang”. Furthermore, two suspects would previously have been trade unionists in “two shipping companies and anyone who tried to rebel against this state of affairs automatically became the victim of punitive shipments with actual beatings”.
