The perfect storm that hit the primary sector did not affect the solidity of the Ancona Agricultural Consortium which closed the 2023 budget with a turnover of 75.5 million euros, in a year in which it continued to guarantee the punctual supply of goods and services to an audience of over 8 thousand customers, recognizing the correct value of the products supplied.

Perfect storm, as the president Alessandro Alessandrini recalled during the members’ meeting who highlighted the strong critical issues that the past year has reserved for the agricultural world: the decline in production of durum wheat – the main crop of the region – due adverse weather conditions; the collapse of prices on the markets for durum wheat and sunflower; the stagnation of the sale of agricultural machinery; the increase in the cost of money; the dear energy.

Adversities that make 2023 one of the most complicated years from a commercial point of view of the last decade. Nonetheless, thanks to prudential conduct and carefulness in economic-financial management, it was possible to keep the accounts perfectly in order, recording a profit of almost 30 thousand euros, with the pride of the over 360 members in representing the The only Consortium in the regional context to continue to maintain its autonomy unchanged.

In detail, the over 410 thousand quintals of durum wheat – which make the Ancona Agricultural Consortium the main storage center in the Marche – contributed to generating a revenue of 23.5 million from all the cereals marketed, down compared to the year passed both due to the reduction in the production of durum wheat itself by over 30% in the regional territory, and due to a drop of approximately 40% in the relative sales value which fell from 50 euros in 2022 to 30 euros in 2023. For sunflower ( and partly for rapeseed) the situation was different: the rains that fell at the right time favored an increase in production, so much so that the Consortium amassed around 30% more sunflowers, exceeding the figure of 12,000 tonnes. On the contrary, the same can no longer be said for the price, which went from around 61 euros per quintal to around 36 with a significant drop that had a heavy impact on farmers’ pockets.

During the shareholders’ meeting, the board of directors whose mandate was expiring was also appointed, practically reconfirmed en bloc, demonstrating the appreciation of the work carried out in recent years and the renewed confidence to face the next important challenges that the agricultural sector will face. The following were elected: Alessandro Alessandrini, Lodovico Baldeschi Balleani, Pierfrancesco Bartolazzi Menchetti, Alessandro Bettini, Andrea Crocenzi, Renato Fagioli (representing the Muzio Gallo Institute), Federico Guazzaroni (representing the Opere Laiche Foundation), Lorenzo Honorati, Claudio Quattrini ( representing the Pontifical Delegation of Loreto), Giuseppe Minghi, Antonio Trionfi Honorati and Francesco Vitali.
