Great condolences to Urbania for the death of Franco Pecchia (photo), 89 years old, artist and collaborator of the Durantina administration for many years, especially in the artistic and cultural field. Originally from Pesaro, he had lived in Rome in the 60s and 70s, dealing with theater and acting in large companies.

In the early 1980s he moved to Peglio where he bought a church which was then transformed into a residence and studio. In Urbania, after a first retrospective sculpture exhibition, he began a continuous collaboration lasting over 30 years for the staging of the exhibitions that the Civic Museum presented to the city every year.

In Peglio he created the bronze monument for the war dead. He curated the exhibition of Durantine ceramics at the European Parliament in Strasbourg and other international events in Leipzig, Prague or Algeria. He also designed the furnishings for the opening of the newly restored Sala Montefeltro, with solutions so successful that they are still valid today. “Franco was meticulous, imaginative, precise like few others – the former mayor Giuseppe Lucarini remembers him –. For him, a deadline and a commitment were everything. In Urbania he then found a family to whom you gave sincere and reciprocated affection and it was was close until the end. If Urbania has one of the most beautiful museums in the province, it is also thanks to him.” Franco Pecchia will be buried in the Urbania cemetery. The funeral tomorrow at 3pm in the cathedral church.
