Asti, convicted for illegal possession of weapons proven with DNA

It was the DNA that attributed with certainty that those weapons found in their house, in others in their availability and in illegally occupied cellars in the Praia district (via Pasolini, via Ungaretti and in the abandoned Ecomostro construction site) had been used by the four arrested in last November by the Flying Squad of Asti and who this afternoon were condemned by the Gup Sparacino.

Maximiliano Vettoretti to 6 years and 6 months and 20 thousand euros fine, Samuele Cestari to 6 years (acquitted for the drug crime) and 12 thousand euros fine, Salvatore Buttaci to 6 years, 11 months and 22 thousand euros fine, and Angelo Palumbo at 2 years and 3 months. Defended by lawyers Rattazzi, Bona, La Matina and Arrobio, they received a final sentence very close to that requested by the prosecutor who coordinated the entire investigation, Laura Deodato.

The weapons had been seized at the conclusion of another investigation which had particularly alarmed citizens which dates back to April 2022 when, in front of the Asti emergency room, some gunshots were fired towards a group of women who were on the pavement in front of the entrance to the waiting room. Only by chance no one had been injured or killed.

The investigations had led to Vettoretti, Palumbo, Buttaci and Cestari and searches had been ordered against them which had allowed the police to find, in addition to the weapons (2 sawn-off shotguns, 1 stolen pistol, 1 illegal and particularly powerful pyrotechnic device ), also half a kilo of marijuana, hashish, a stolen scooter.

But the Prosecutor’s Office had to be able to attribute those weapons with certainty to the four arrested, demonstrate that it was they who handled them and therefore possessed them illegally and this proof came precisely by comparing the DNA detected on the weapons with the genetic fingerprint of the suspects.
