Serie B: Catanzaro wins in the storm, Ascoli and Ternana fall

B’s big match suspended in the first half due to rain. Explosive match between Südtirol-Ternana, Palermo defeated in Liguria.

The big Serie B match between Venezia, third in the standings, and Catanzaro, fifth, ended with a last-gasp victory for the hosts, amidst rain and controversy.

Everything happens in the first half, with Catanzaro taking the lead after just 5 minutes with Pontisso served by Sounas, and the guests equalizing in the 14th minute with Idzes. Then a violent storm that hits Ceravolo forces the match to be suspended, which is resumed at 4.15pm.

After earning three golden points at Ternana, in a match for survival, Ascoli takes a step back and returns to quicksand. The home defeat against Cosenza bears the signature of Tutino, who in the 41st minute on a serve from D’Orazio breaks the deadlock by scoring the goal that will decree the victory for the Calabrians. With this success, Cosenza rises to tenth place with 45 points, while Ascoli remains stationary at 37.

Spezia takes a big step towards salvation by beating Palermo at the Picco. Di Serio scored the winning goal for D’Angelo’s team in the 16th minute. Spezia rises to 40, landing in 15th place and temporarily abandoning the red zone of the playouts, while Palermo remains sixth at 52.

After the home defeat against Ascoli, Ternana took home zero points also from the away match at Südtirol, after a daring match decided by El Kaouakibi’s goal in the 85th minute. The hosts took the lead with Odogwu in the 9th minute but the guests managed to turn the situation around with Pereiro and Luparini between the 23rd and 33rd minutes, ending the first half with the lead.

In the second half Casiraghi equalized the score in the 55th minute, but Ternana, with ten men due to the expulsion of Boloca for a second yellow card, found a new advantage with Luperini. However, it was Casiraghi again, who equalized the score in the 75th minute, before El Kaouakibi’s final goal which gave Südtirol the victory. Ternana remains stuck at 37 points, in the playout zone.

Cremonese beats Pisa and consolidates fourth place. Ciofani takes the lead in the 13th minute from a penalty, D’Alessandro equalizes in the 48th minute. In the final, Coda, in the 85th minute, gave the home team the victory. The Lombards rise to 63 while Pisa remains stationary at 45, in eleventh position.
