There is not that of Cuffaro’s DC among the six symbols contained within that of the United States of Europe.
The list of the coalition of Renzi and Bonino was in fact presented this morning, without there being a reference candidate from the DC within it.
Cuffaro’s party thus remains, at least formally, out of the European competition in June.
In recent days, after the refusal of Forza Italia, due to the veto posed by Chinnici, to host a party candidacy, despite the appeal of the president of the region Schifani, there was insistence on the hypothesis that a candidate supported by Cuffaro would be present in the list promoted by Renzi and Bonino.
The hypothesis was valid until the last minute.
Last night the partner of the magistrate daughter of the former president of the region, Marco Zambuto, passed away.
Zambuto was mayor of Agrigento and regional councilor in the Musumeci council, but also president of the Regional Assembly of the PD in Sicily, before joining Forza Italia.
At the 2014 European elections he was a candidate with the Democratic Party, collecting 65,722 preferences, which were not enough to get him elected.
“In recent hours I have reflected a lot on my candidacy and on the controversy surrounding the relationships in my private life. I decided that I had to favor and safeguard the serenity of my life over a commitment that was fair but full of malicious controversy.
I thank Renzi who proposed my candidacy but I decided not to accept it.”
It seemed to be made for Laura Abbadessa, lawyer and consultant to the DC councilor for the Family in Sicily Nuccia Albano, and director of the DC.
But Abbadessa, who is the wife of magistrate Massimo Russo, former health councilor in Raffaele Lombardo’s government, ultimately backed out.
“There are no conditions to carry out the electoral campaign peacefully.
I perceived that an unacceptable instrumental propaganda would be mounted on my personal relationships with some exponents of the DC which forces me to renounce in order not to jeopardize my personal dignity and the serenity of my family”.
The head of the list is Rita Bernardini, with a history of commitment to civil battles, first with the Radical Party and then with the association “Hands Off Cain”, committed against the death penalty and the quality of life in prisons.
Bernardini is followed by president Gal Nebrodi Francesco Concetto Calanna, who in the past was a member of the Ars, when he was elected on the left-wing Democrats list with Rita Borsellino.
Also on the list are Valentina Falletta, of Italia Viva, Luca Ballatore Luca and Pierina Puzzolu of PSI, and Carola Politi of + Europa.
Closing out is the leader of Italia viva, Matteo Renzi, who has assured that, in the event of election, he will leave the Senate to carry out the role of European parliamentarian.
