In recent days, at the headquarters of the AdSP of the Eastern Ligurian Sea, the periodic meeting of the working groups of representatives of port and inland terminals, intermodal operators and intermodal transport companies of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean rail freight corridor, called Rail, took place. Freight Corridor ScanMed RAG/TAG Meeting.

Many topics were discussed during the meeting, from the review of the European TEN-T transport networks in recent days to the approval of the EU parliament, to the development of best practices between Northern Europe and the Scandinavian peninsula, such as the project to improve the railway capacity of the border between Germany and Denmark (Niebüll-Tonder) or the one to transport railway wagons via ferry between Denmark, Norway and Sweden along the Jutland corridor, finishing with the study of the capacity of the port and backport terminals of the ScanMed corridor up to 2025.

The occasion allowed the AdSP to illustrate the activities planned in the SWIFTRAIL project, recently approved by the European Commission, which will allow financing further works relating to the upgrading of the tracks and the La Spezia Marittima station and a study on the potential of the connecting railway networks with the port of La Spezia.

After a morning of work, the participants had the opportunity to visit the areas of the port of La Spezia and the inland port of Santo Stefano Magra, closely observing the investments that the AdSP is carrying out to increase railway capacity both from the infrastructural and digital and the new port-report road shuttle service to further encourage intermodality in the port system.

“The choice of the port of La Spezia for the periodic meeting of the working groups of the freight rail corridor testifies to the international recognition of the railway vocation of our port, which is continuing to invest in intermodality as an essential element for efficiency and sustainability of the entire port system” – declares the General Secretary of the AdSP Federica Montaresi, who in the ScanMed Corridor holds the role of coordinator of the working group that brings together the representatives of the port and inland terminals.
