everything you need to know about April 25th

Separate tracks on which various initiatives and events will run which will affect Milan on 25 April. On the occasion of the Liberation Day, the Municipality of Milan has organized a series of events within the ‘Milan is Memory’ program. The day will open with the laying of laurel wreaths in honor and memory of those who died during the war of partisan resistance, the brigade fighters and civilians killed by Nazi-fascist reprisals, from Piazzale Loreto to other places.

On schedule, at 9 am, the first deposition will take place in Piazza Tricolore near the monument to the financial police. Followed, at 9.15, by Palazzo Isimbardi and the plaque dedicated to the Fallen. At 9.30 third stop at Palazzo Marino in front of the plaque of the Gold Medal for military valor for the city. 10 am, Loggia dei Mercanti, near the plaques in memory of those who fell for Freedom. Afterwards, at 10.30, the wreath will be placed in Largo Caduti Milanesi per la Patria at the Shrine of the Fallen of All Wars. The last deposition will be in Piazzale Loreto at 11am in front of the monument in memory of the partisans martyrs of the massacre.

After the laying of the wreaths, at 2pm, the traditional procession will begin starting from Corso Venezia, at the corner of Via Palestro. Expected arrival in Piazza Duomo at 3.30pm where the interventions will begin. The institutional day will end at 8pm with the concert ‘Resistance and Liberation: popular music writes, preserves and renews Memory’ in the Sala Verdi of the Conservatory. Entrance is free, upon registration.

The Palestinian demonstration

Much debated in recent weeks is the issue of the pro-Palestine demonstration, which will take place on the same day, but which has turned into a single demonstration. The Young Palestinians of Italy and other groups have decided to meet directly in Piazza Duomo at 1.30 pm. So the two demonstrations should not meet.

“The choice to put resistance back at the center of the anniversary of Liberation finds its legitimate reasons in the resumption of the emancipation of peoples and the oppressed as a principle that inextricably links today’s partisan struggles that are facing the misery and deaths produced by colonialism, to the action that fought the occupation in Italy”, write the Young Palestinians in a note.

Changes to ATM vehicles

During Thursday 25 April, trams, buses and trolleybuses could be slowed down, diverted or end before the terminus due to the passage of the Liberation Day processions.

The M1 metro skips the San Babila stop from 2pm, and the Duomo also skips from 2.30pm. The M3 metro skips the Duomo stop from 2.30pm. The M4 metro stops at Tricolore from 2pm. Alternatively, Atm recommends, it is possible to use nearby stations. If you are traveling on the M4, change at Dateo for the S lines to reach other underground lines.

In the afternoon several lines, including trams 1 and 9, may be slowed down, diverted or end before the terminus. “We will give real-time updates on traffic status on the app (activate notifications),” the company writes.
