Sammartino, vice-president and councilor for agriculture of the Sicily Regionwas suspended for one year from public office because he was involved in the Catania carabinieri operation relating to the ‘Pandora’ investigation.

Born in 1985, graduated in dentistry and dental prosthetics, he is a leading and reference exponent of the League by Matteo Salvini in Sicily. In the past he was an exponent ofUdcthen it transitioned into PD and for a short time it also landed at Italia Viva, before moving on to the Carroccio. He is the nephew of the retired prefect Claudio Sammartino, one of the members of the access commission appointed by the Interior Ministry called to evaluate possible mafia infiltration in the Municipality of Bari. For the presidency Schifani also had the delegation for relations with the Sicilian Regional Assembly.

In the ARS chamber he made his debut in the ranks of the UDC, at the age of 27, in 2012, with over 12 thousand votes. Then he moved on to the hybrid formation Article 4. In 2015 he joined the Democratic Party with the election to the Sicilian Parliament with 33 thousand votes. In 2019 he followed Matteo Renzi in Italia Viva and in 2021 he moved to Matteo Salvini’s League, a party for which he is currently a member in the regional parliament and in the executive of Palazzo d’Orleans. He is the husband of Valeria Sudano, a Northern League lawyer from Catania and member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2022, with whom he also has a son. In the last regional elections he brought home over 21 thousand votes in the list ‘Italy Salvini prime minister first’. For the League – according to what is filtered – he was also working on the lists to present, in the islands constituency, in view of the next European elections.
