Palermo 17 April 2024 – Promoting accessible mobility and inclusive tourism starting from the very first moments of the trip: it is with this objective that SRC Rent Car, a car rental company, introduces short-term car rental of adapted cars for the first time in Sicily with driving systems for people with disabilities in possession of a special license.

Freedom and autonomy are at the center of the initiative: Next to this Ability, this is the name of the project, is aimed at disabled users who wish to use a car and be independent both on holiday and in daily travel. Autonomy and freedom at the center of the context.

“We are strongly convinced that driving a car by a disabled driver represents a real skill to be praised – underlines the Sole Director Francesco Scalia – This is where the name of the Next to this Ability service comes from. This service represents an important step forward towards accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. Through the offer of adapted vehicles we are committed to providing users with the freedom and independence they need to lead a full and autonomous life” – concludes Scalia, who in 10 years of activity has led the SRC to have 68 employees, 600 cars in the fleet and a turnover of over 5.6 million euros.

Sicily, with Palermo as the starting point, is the region where the project will be launched. In the very short term, the extension to the rest of Italy is expected, with the coverage of the car rental stations in which SRC has solid bases such as in the airports of Milan Linate, Turin, Florence, Pisa as well as the aforementioned Sicily with the capital, Catania, Trapani, Comiso and the tourist ports of Palermo and Milazzo.

SRC Rent Car has decided to invest time and energy in the Next to this ability project with the partnership of ANGLAT, a national social promotion association which has been operating since 1980, also internationally, for the representation and protection of the rights of people with disabilities and of their families. This reality focuses primarily on the sectors of mobility, driving, transport and accessibility, and in Italy it involves 160 thousand holders of Special Licenses for driving adapted vehicles.

The cars of the Next to this Ability service (Fiat 500X) will also be bookable by customers coming from abroad who will thus have the opportunity to explore our cultural and landscape treasures in full independence and will identify Italy as an inclusive and welcoming tourist destination.
