The presence of soldiers is a strong signal
Today, Wednesday 30 April, the Undersecretary of the Interior Nicola Molteni, on the sidelines of the visit to the contingents of the “Safe Roads” operation placed from today in the stations of Carugo, Lambrugo, Inverigo, Merone and Erba, declared as follows: “The protection of legality and effective control of the territory of the province of the country are priority objectives for the Interior Ministry. In continuity with this address, I wanted to convey my greetings and that of Minister Piantedosi, to the soldiers involved in the ‘Safe Roads’ operation who today begin their surveillance service at the railway stations in the province of Como, that is to say at the junctions of Carugo, Lambrugo, Inverigo, Merone and Erba. Thanks to the commitment and work of myself and the minister, the contingent already operational and composed of 15 units, was increased by a quota of 17 new members of the Army, so as to be able to respond simultaneously, and in collaboration with the Army of the Carabinieri and the State Police, to the needs of garrisoning the city of Como and its province. It is a strong signal of the presence of the State and of the firm desire to combat those crimes such as drug dealing or youth violence which threaten the safety and security of citizens in the places and spaces of their daily lives. Surveillance activity in the station area, in this initial phase, will be guaranteed by self-mounted patrols made up of three soldiers each. I am very satisfied because a historic result has been achieved for our territory, a battle, that of the use of the Army soldiers to protect the territory in coordination with the Police Forces to whom I applaud them for their daily control work and prevention, which began many years ago and which today finally finds fulfillment and application. This is the policy of the facts, necessary to consolidate the safety of the people of Como with the presence of the military but also with the imminent strengthening of the staff of the Como Police Headquarters and the Border Police. Security is an issue that has no political color and is an essential right of the population: I believe that the excellent work done for Como and its province goes in this direction, with the awareness that a safe and protected community is a lively and capable of promoting concrete and beneficial moral, social and economic development”.
