MODENA – Pre-trial detention in prison for 20 people linked to gangmastering and labor exploitation. In handcuffs on charges of extortion, personal injury, threats, self-laundering, illicit intermediation and labor exploitation during the operation by the Digos of Modena and the Carpi police station, 18 people who were part of a criminal association known as “Ak 47 Carpi” ended up.
Two others, however, living in the province of Brescia, were accused of attempted murder of a man from the Carpi group. Those arrested, including some people residing in the Mantua area, organized the recruitment of numerous workers by withholding, under threat, a portion of their wages. Thanks to the collaboration of the soldiers of the Modena Financial Police, it was ascertained that the majority of the occasional workers employed were unemployed and employed in other totally unrelated activities. Those who did not accept submission to the group suffered persecutory actions in the work and personal spheres, even with punitive expeditions that ended with actual beatings.
The investigations that led to today’s operation began in 2021 following the courageous complaint of a worker who, during a union meeting, had been subjected to threats culminating in a violent attack, resulting in very serious injuries.
The criminal association was also active on social networks with the profile “Ak 47 Carpi” on which videos and images were posted portraying the members in a threatening attitude, holding sticks and clubs, flaunting the availability of money and the possession of large displacement.
