“The miracle club” at the Cineforum delle Arti

The Miracle Club: a trip to Lourdes to be friends again.

It is proposed on Thursday 18 April by the Cineforum alle Arti di Gallarate with “The Miracle Club” directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan with Agnes O’Casey, Kathy Bates and Maggie Smith.

As usual in double projection: at 3.00 pm introduced by Prof. Cristina Boracchi and then in the evening, at 9.00 pm, introduced and commented by Gabriele Lingiardi.

Set in 1967 Ireland, the film follows the story of three friends, Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates) and Dolly (Agnes O’Casey). From Ballygar, a working-class community on the outskirts of Dublin that marches to its own beat, rooted in traditions of loyalty, faith and togetherness, the three women dream of winning a pilgrimage to the sacred city of Lourdes to taste freedom and escape the routine of domestic life . Shortly before the trip, they have a surprise: the daughter of a dear friend of theirs, recently deceased, who arrived in Ballygar for her mother’s funeral, unexpectedly joins them after a long exile in the United States. New entry Chrissie (Laura Linney) reopens old wounds and the four women will have to confront their past, even as they travel in search of a miracle.
