Marina di Ragusa, public showers will become paid

“Everyone has seen it, and often – declares the Councilor for the Environment, Mario D’Asta – scenes of inappropriate use of public showers. Waste that becomes all the more odious while several Sicilian municipalities are already forced to ration water; waste that has a cost borne by all Ragusans, both those who benefit from it and those who do not. For this reason, as announced and shared, we are working on a paid public shower system and the first test systems have been installed in recent days. By paying a few cents you can use the service at a small cost but sufficient to educate users and combat waste through a timed mechanism. In the next few days we will continue with the installations, providing all the information regarding use”.

“More and more Sicilian municipalities – continues the councilor for the hamlets, Andrea Distefano – they have equipped or are equipping their beaches with this type of system and for this reason I have worked and followed this project since I took office. Many residents of Marina, to give just one example, have often spoken to me about how sad it is to witness certain waste. The objective, in fact, is certainly not to make money with showers but to educate: we believe that it is correct that those who use a service pay for it and use it responsibly. Following already tested models, we have thought of a convenient system that can also take into account the needs of families and tourists. There will be no apps, as some citizens had initially requested, because using a smartphone in a shower and near the sand is never a good idea, but equally simple systems such as prepaid cards or bracelets that can be purchased on site”.
