ASL L’AQUILA: THE PROTEST, “WE SERIE B ONCOLOGY PATIENTS, FORCED TO TREATMENT OUTSIDE THE PROVINCE” | Current news

L’AQUILA – “It is an odyssey that we do not deserve given that this absurd difficulty is affecting cancer patients who already have to deal with a serious illness: when after a delicate process of tests and evaluations by the local oncology facility we were about to undergo during the first cycle of chemotherapy, a strange and inconceivable provision from the general management of the provincial health authority of L’Aquila ordered the cancellation of those treatments and a complete change in therapy to be administered in the oncology department”.

The protest of a group of cancer patients explodes loudly, rebelling against “an urgent service provision” from the General Directorate of the provincial health authority of L’Aquila signed by the manager, Ferdinand Romano, which, in their opinion, would have forced them to “emigrate” to other healthcare companies to proceed with the treatments they were about to undergo after having carried out a preliminary process under the guidance of the Simple Operational Unit of Territorial Oncology led by Enrico Ricevuto, professor associate of the University of L’Aquila under contract and former head physician. The patients have announced appeals and also complained to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The patients in question have chosen not to comply with what is dictated in that document which establishes that the treatments must be carried out according to different protocols, in the oncology department of the San Salvatore hospital, the complex operational unit directed by the head doctor, Luciano Mutti, He is also an associate professor under contract. In short, according to what emerges from health circles, the ASL rejected Professor Ricevuto’s work. And the story gives a glimpse of the “war”, very harsh and characterized by stamped papers, that has been ongoing for some time between the two structures operating in the delicate sector, but above all between the two oncologists.

“Due to the serious situation that has arisen, some of us have had to go to other hospitals to continue on the path decided, that is with chemotherapy – continues the group of patients -. We are determined to denounce this absurd situation that makes us feel like second-class patients. Indeed, they were exposed to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. We do not know the reasons for this decision which we reject because we have faith in the path and the treatments that were proposed to us. This incredible story exposes us to serious economic problems for travel to other facilities and, above all, to the aggravation of an already very strong stress, for such a serious diagnosis and illness – conclude the patients.
