Restoration at Santerno?
After the inaugural round in Qatar at the beginning of March the FIA WEC world endurance championship returns to the spotlight at the weekend with the 6 hours of Imola. In Lusail, Porsche even got the hat trick by monopolizing the podium by making the most of a favorable BOP which put the burdened Toyota and Ferrari in difficulty on a track which ‘multiplied’ the performance handicaps due to the characteristics of the circuit (low degradation asphalt for those who have had a light car and very fast wide radius curves).
TO Imola the organizers of the championship have corrected the aim with regards to the Balance of Performance and Ferrari will certainly be able to return to playing a leading role throughout the entire race and not just in the early stages when the 499P led the group after a brilliant from Miguel Molina.
The managing director of Porsche Penske Motorsport is convinced of this Jonathan Diuguid: “The characteristics of the Imola circuit are very different from those of Qatar – his words reported by the newspaper sportscar365 – in Lusail I think I found the most regular and smooth asphalt I have ever seen in my life and therefore we were able toor go really ‘low’ with the car. In Imola, however, there will be many more bumps, bumps and curbs, a cross between a ‘smooth’ and bumpy circuit like Sebring or Long Beach (Porsche is also involved in IMSA, the US sports prototype championship ed). The BoP has an important effect and I expect the cars to be much closer, because the configuration window is a little wider at Imola just based on the characteristics of the track. I expect a return to normality, that is, Ferrari and Toyota fighting for victory, but I expect us to be there too“.
