the letter from the president of Coni Veneto, Dino Ponchio

The Veneto Regional Committee has published an excerpt from the newsletter sent by the president of CONI Veneto, Dino Ponchioto make it clear how the observations collected from the companies most involved in this change triggered by the law of Sports Reformhave been precious and will not be lost.

Dear friends,

we are at the opening of activities for various “summer” sports which, added to those of winter sports, mean that April and May are the months of most intense activity for our entire movement.

In the midst of this “turbine” of matches, competitions, events, there are also the tasks foreseen by the entry into force of the “very bad” (by now you know that’s what I call it) “sports law”.

I won’t dwell as you know my thoughts well, thoughts which, among other things, I expressed very harshly in the TV/7-Triveneta broadcast on Monday 1st April (go and watch it if you feel like it).

The thing that surprises me a little is that, although “we” have been preaching for a long time that a boulder was about to fall on us (24 CONI meetings in Veneto on the topic in 2023), our ASD-Societies are only realizing it now that they experience first-hand the harmful effects of its application which, although partially mitigated thanks to our very strong protests, are still very serious.

It surprises me, but I don’t mind at all, that other sports organizations also organize meetings on the topic, sometimes for free, sometimes for a fee, but in any case “the more the merrier”. Of course I would like it if there were more managers and fewer “professionals” (accountants, labor consultants, lawyers) at our qualified meetings who come to learn and then have their fees “paid”… but at least this way they don’t make mistakes!

In this regard, I would like to remind you that, in synergy with the Veneto Region and the FIGC, we have drawn up a summary document with a series of proposals to further improve the law. The document will be brought by the Region to the “Conference of Regions” to be discussed… let’s hope for the best.

The last note on the topic to inform you that a highly qualified “working group” is developing a new law text on sport, with the aim of sending it to the government with the support of “one million” signatures to arrive at the repeal of this “very bad” law and activate one, the result of the experiences and knowledge of sportsmen, here too… let’s hope for the best.

I return to the topic of the Veneto Region for a moment because, as also highlighted in my last “letter, having gone from 1,800,000 euros to 23/24 million for sport is an extraordinary thing and worth underlining. Regional sport will benefit greatly, even if over 20 million are allocated to improvements in sports facilities and “only” 2/3 to the sport practiced, but we certainly cannot complain, we can finally say that we are satisfied, but we ask that this allocation or a very significant portion becomes “structural” and not episodic, yet…let’s hope so.

For your convenience and in particular for those (Public, Municipal and Private Bodies) who have an interest in sports facilities, I would like to point out below the announcement from the Veneto Region, aimed at all local Municipalities and sports organizations that own sports facilities or of a real right or enjoyment for at least 4 years.

The tender provides for the provision of contributions for interventions relating to the construction and renovation of building complexes of buildings hosting sports facilities regarding energy efficiency, seismic improvement, completion and bringing into compliance with public and/or instrumental sports facilities and complexes. sporting activities, even located within the school complex.

Extreme summary of the “call”: each subject can present only one application; the capital municipalities or those with a population exceeding 40,000 can submit up to a maximum of 3 applications for the same number of sports facilities; deadline 20 May 2024: the contribution, in capital account, may be granted to interventions, or functional lots, with a minimum cost of 25,000 euros (including any charges as per the economic framework of the project) in an amount equal to 80% of the total eligible expenditure and , however, within the maximum contribution limit of 100,000 euros…let’s hope for good results here too!

Speaking of allocations, I remind you that CONI Veneto, with its own funding and that of external “bodies”, manages to assign around 200,000 euros to the companies that join the CONI “Projects” (Coni Centers and Educamp), which, in terms of level, is almost double compared to the second region in Italy. We also succeed because from this year, at my request, “productivity” is also rewarded by “Roma”; therefore, the number of Centers and Educamps activated and, given that we are the very first region in terms of membership (around 180), we receive good funding. Precisely for this reason I ask you to get your ASDs to join the projects, so maybe we can do even more for them.

I realize that I have reached almost two pages, so I have to close and, apologizing for having talked almost exclusively about money, but they are needed… they are needed, I greet you cordially.

Dino Ponchio
President CR CONI
