ANCONA

Around 120 thousand fewer workers in the Marche region in just ten years. This is the forecast of the research office of the CGIA of Mestre, which on the basis of Istat data relating to demographic trends, has found that between now and 2034 the number of people of working age present in our territory will decrease by 12.39%. . A result that places our region sixth in Italy in this negative ranking, the only region in the Center among the top ranked, which with a loss of 119,327 workers in ten years, is placed considerably above the Italian average, where there is a percentage drop in ‘Approximately 8%. The study highlights how the people currently at work in the Marche are today 963,429 while in 2034 the same number is destined to decrease to 844,102 units.

But what are the reasons for this collapse? According to the artisans’ association, these results are due to the progressive aging of the population and the demographic decline, with fewer and fewer young people entering the world of work and many over 65s who are destined to leave due to reaching the age limit. A situation that in some provinces of the Marche appears to be even more dramatic than the regional average. The territory that will suffer the most from the decline in workers between now and 2034 is the province of Ascoli Piceno, with almost 27 thousand fewer units over a decade, with a percentage decrease of 19.56%. A result that places the province of Ascoli second in the ranking among all the provinces of Italy for this negative record. The province of Ancona is also not far behind, which with a percentage drop in workers of 15.59% in ten years, ranks twelfth in our country. An important change for the Ancona area, which according to the CGIA of Mestre will see the loss of almost 50 thousand fewer workers in just ten years. A decline above the national average also for the provinces of Macerata and Fermo, which will be destined to lose 17,110 (-9.16%) and 9,015 (8.69%) workers respectively. Closing the Marche ranking is the province of Pesaro and Urbino, which will lose over 17,000 workers in ten years, with a percentage drop of 7.7%.

“This is an estimate – says Moreno Bordoni, secretary of the Cna Marche – but in an area like ours it is clear that there will be a significant impact due above all to the demographic decline. Artisan businesses are already struggling to find specialized personnel and this situation we also add the arrival of artificial intelligence, which must not be taken by companies as a problem but as a resource. As an association we are already working in this direction, so that new and specialized figures are trained”. The secretary of the Cna Marche concludes: “Given that there does not seem to be a reversal of the trend regarding the demographic decline, to find an answer to the companies’ need for manpower it will be necessary for Italy to implement targeted plans for migratory flows”.
