GRAN SASSO TOURIST CENTER CRISIS: THE CGIL ASKS FOR A MEETING WITH THE MAYOR OF L’AQUILA | Current news

L’AQUILA – “The silence of the property and of its greatest exponent, the Mayor of the Municipality of L’Aquila, resonates in a sinister way. Exactly 15 days after the stop imposed on the Gran Sasso cable car, no discussion, neither in the City Council nor with the social partners. No information or vision on the fate of the Tourism Center’s employees, both permanent and temporary.” This can be read in a note from the CGIL requesting a meeting with the mayor of L’Aquila.

“An appointment with the announced disaster, for the many who have bet on a mountain economy that can hardly ignore the cable car. Every prospect, if imagined and viable, is not known a few days after the infrastructure was blocked. With delay, too much delay, it was recognized that it was necessary to provide the economic resources for the necessary replacement of the ropes. In the meantime the company, which should be and has the potential to be the best player in our mountain tourism, neglects its mission. No tourist operator would treat their enormous capital so superficially. The owner of 5 accommodation facilities, she currently has 2 inactive and closed, the Hotel Campo Imperatore upstream and the Hotel Cristallo in Fonte Cerreto, the rest of which give the company, as per the balance sheet data, scant resources compared to to the located structures. An unhealthy management that will present a very high bill to the City. Yet it is not discussed publicly as the fate of one of the levers of rebirth would deserve.”

“There is a need to act well and quickly. No intervention timetable is known, neither regarding the purchase and replacement of the ropes, much less, for the past 15 years now, regarding the return to usability of the immense receptive capital which is now sadly abandoned to decay. In a normal world, the L’Aquila City Council, the pro tempore representative and owner of the infrastructure, should deal with these issues. Instead we escape responsibility and comparison. Time is ticking and it will present the bill to the innocent employees of the Gran Sasso Tourist Center, to those of the accommodation facilities that laboriously promote our mountain, to the owners and managers of the same and in general to our community. Given the total lack of discussion, we are preparing a request for an urgent meeting with the Mayor of the Municipality of L’Aquila asking for a meeting to be held in the presence of all stakeholders”.
