The mafia fears school more than justice (Antonino Caponnetto). It is with this quote that Major Pasqualino Trotta, Commander of the Carabinieri Company of Trani, welcomed the IB and II L classes of the Rocca-Bovio-Palumbo Secondary School on a visit to the Carabinieri Barracks of Trani. Meeting strongly supported by the school director Giovanni Cassanelli as part of the Education on Legality project. The students attended a passionate and heartfelt historical-cultural lesson on the Carabinieri and were skilfully led to question themselves, through the skilful use of stimulus questions, on what it means today to be a Carabiniere, a symbol of safety and trust. In this regard, the meeting with Marshal Antonio Altavilla, one of the survivors of the Nassirya attack in 2003, was exciting. Born in 1814 by will of King Vittorio Emanuele I, the Carabinieri were protagonists of the Risorgimento, of the Resistance and of the War of Liberation from Nazi-fascists and subsequently fought against terrorism and organized crime, in some cases even sacrificing their own lives. Topics such as the tasks of the Carabinieri were touched upon: military, defence, citizen safety, environmental protection and peacekeeping missions abroad. Major Trotta then spoke about the recruitment, training and organization of the force. The students subsequently had the opportunity to visit the barracks, specifically the operations center, the cars and motorbikes used for maintaining public order. The children enthusiastically perceived the values of dedication, commitment and sacrifice with which the Carabinieri defend legality, justice and safety. Objective achieved for the Army and for the School: to join forces to train aware and responsible men and women of tomorrow.
