There are 7,480 workers required by companies in the provinces of Lucca, Massa-Carrara and Pisa in March 2024, with a growth of +8.2% compared to twelve months ago. Almost one in three hires concerns young people up to 29 years of age: a value in line with the previous year. The greatest employment opportunities for young people are offered by catering activities and commercial establishments, while among highly specialized professions there are opportunities for IT and telecommunications technicians, particularly in demand by companies in Lucca and Pisa, and for in the engineering field required by those of Massa-Carrara. The difficulty that companies encounter in finding the professional figures they are looking for remains high: one in two hirings remains unfilled on average in the three provinces, with slightly greater difficulties in Massa-Carrara and Pisa than in Lucca.

This, in summary, is what emerges from the data collected for the month of March 2024 on a sample of over 2,600 companies with employees in the provinces of Lucca, Massa-Carrara and Pisa from the Excelsior information system, a provincial-based survey carried out by Unioncamere in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and developed by the Chamber of Commerce of North-West Tuscany and the Institute for Studies and Research – ISR.

“Despite the difficult economic situation – comments the President of the Chamber of Commerce of North-West Tuscany – Valter Tamburini – the March data indicate a growth in demand for work by companies. Numerous professions, albeit with different levels of relevance, see a demand directed mainly towards young people. These are professions that range from IT to engineering, from life sciences to tourism and personal well-being. Through targeted initiatives, the Chamber of Commerce and its ISI Foundation continue to be committed to facilitating the meeting between job supply and demand, thus contributing to promoting the development of the entrepreneurial system.”

Pisan companies have planned 2,860 hirings in March, with an increase of +5% compared to a year earlier. The employment opportunities offered to young people up to 29 years of age remain stable at 30% of hirings, for approximately 850 new arrivals scheduled for the month. Clerical, commercial and service professions offer the greatest employment opportunities, with a share of 34% for 300 positions reserved for young people, largely in catering and trade. Good opportunities also for workers and vehicle drivers with 270 hires under 30, aimed above all at drivers, tanning workers and metal carpenters, while among the 160 new hires in highly qualified professions, there is a demand for IT and telecommunications technicians and technicians relations with the markets.
