Sold out, or almost, for the May Day long weekend in the city. Visitors continue to arrive in Bergamo in large numbers – as happens in the most well-known destinations – regardless of the weather forecast. Hotels and restaurants close an excellent week, thanks to April 25th which brought tens of thousands of people to the city. Great work for the Orio al Serio airport, but tourists also reached Bergamo by train, car and camper.
The long queues at the funicular
Long queues Saturday 27 April to the lower funicular station to reach the historic center. Bergamo has become one of the main tourist destinations in Northern Italy and the weather component does not worry operators too much. «Despite the adverse weather forecasts, demand is also high for the May 1st long weekend, when we will be fully booked – confirms Beniamino Tomasoni, director of the Hotel Excelsior San Marco -. We have many European guests with many arrivals from Nordic and Eastern countries.” «We are ending an excellent April and bookings are also good in view of May Day – they comment Daniele Zambonelli of the Hotel Cappello d’Oro and Alessandro Capozzi of the Hotel Città dei Mille –. We are above 80% bookings».
Restaurants do business
Excellent deals also for the catering world. «We are ending a good week and there are excellent prospects for the next few days too – confirms Robi Amaddeo of the Da Mimmo group -. Despite the weather not being great, in recent days we have welcomed many visitors from Italy, but also many foreign tourists with a single common denominator: experiencing our territory as protagonists and tasting the typical products of our food and wine tradition.” Guests demonstrate that they like Orobic cuisine, also looking for typical restaurants in Lower Bergamo, as confirmed Darwin Foglieni of the restaurant Ol Giopì and Margì: «In recent days they have joined local customers many touristseager to taste recipes and typical products of our land.”
