PAVIA On Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April the Botanical Garden of Pavia dedicates an entire weekend to families and all its visitors and friends, on the occasion of the Spring Festival.

Guided tours, workshops for adults and children and above all a special appointment with the “new” Botanical Garden are scheduled.

The rich program opens on Saturday at 2.00 pm with walks to discover the collections of the Botanical Garden Librarywith a focus on spring-flowering bulbous plants, and continues with the children’s workshop We need a flowerorganized by the Lombardy Botanical Gardens Network – conveniently scheduled at the same time as the presentation The new Botanical Garden of Pavia – and with them guided tours organized by the Friends of the Botanical Garden.

Sunday opens with The Original History Walk® “Botanical Enlightenment” edited by Il Mondo di TELS and continues with the BioBlitz dedicated to pollinating insectsThe botanical drawing workshop it’s a special visit to the new collections in the company of the curator Nicola Ardenghi.

Finally, the exhibition is on display throughout the weekend in the Consultation Room of the Botanical Garden Local, precious, prohibited woods. Biodiversity through wood curated by Paola Nola, head of LabDendro, Laboratory of Dendrochronology and Dendroecology of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Pavia.

Saturday 6th at 3.00pm the presentation of the. will be held in Room A renovation and enhancement project financed by the PNRR of the Ministry of Culture, with free entry and open to all citizens, a few weeks after the opening of the construction sites and the temporary closure to the public, scheduled for the beginning of summer. Among the main objectives of the project – in addition toexpansion of the collections and the necessary structural interventions to make the spaces and environments of the Botanical Garden more efficient, sustainable and usable – there is the valorization of the architectural heritage, with the restoration of the famous eighteenth-century greenhouses known as “Scopoliane” in honor of the naturalist Giovanni Antonio Scopoli (1723-1788) who contributed to making the botanical garden of Pavia one of the great European gardens. No less important will also be the strengthening of teaching and dissemination activities.

The Botanical Garden of Pavia, which belongs to the University Museum System, is the oldest botanical garden in Lombardy.

Among the species hosted, the famous Scopoli plane treemonumental tree planted by the famous naturalist, the calamaria or (Isoëtes malinverniana), endemic aquatic species of the Po Valley, almost extinct and now reintroduced thanks to important scientific projects, the desert plant Welwitschia mirabilis (equipped with only two leaves with unlimited growth), the Pavia variety of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis ‘Ticinensis’) e over 200 spring bulbous plants.
