The holiday weekend now behind us, the prospect of a peaceful return home by plane, the mishap at check-in. This is the misadventure in sequence, ending however with a happy ending, experienced by a couple from Bergamo about to fly from Palermo to Milan, boarding an Ita Airways flight.
Unexpected issue, at the time of checks, the weight of the little dog that was supposed to travel with them in the cabin (which actually happened): 9 kilograms, instead of the 8 set as the maximum limit by the airline for animals to travel in the cabin and not in the hold. «On the way out, however, there was no problem at check-in – explains the dog’s owner -. They gave us the OK after weighing it together with the carrier. And the sum did not exceed 10 kilos in total (another maximum limit set by the company for transport in the cabin, ed)”. The travel documents were in order, the vaccination list and the microchip as well, as was the size of the cage in which the dog was transported, within the established limits. And so the couple flies without any problem from Linate to Sicily: «On the way back, going through the check-in process again, we were informed that there was a weight limit for animals and that it was equal to 8 kilos – continues the owner -. However, we had not seen this indication on the company’s website. And even the operator of the toll-free number with whom we spoke for a long time in order to book the tickets had not warned us or reported this variable. I wondered if there had been any change or update of the parameters between Sunday and Wednesday (the holiday period, ed) but at the airport they told me no.”
The airline specifies that the contents in question, i.e. the conditions for transporting your dog in the cabin, were already present online and unchanged (they can be consulted in a specific section on the travel information page). And, net of the qui pro quo, they still express satisfaction at the fact that the owner was then able to return home with her pet in tow.
