TERAMO. The report of the working group that was responsible for evaluating the feasibility of building the new hospital at Villa Mosca opens up scenarios of concern among those in the city who consider that site to be the only desirable one. The technical table, which arose from a request made by the municipal council of Teramo last autumn, saw experts and representatives of the local health authority, region and municipality evaluate the area of the current hospital and formulate three possible design hypotheses on it, highlighting in any case “significant and relevant critical issues”. The document, submitted to the special health commission, will now have to be studied and examined in greater depth by it starting from 3 April, the date set by the president of the body Sara Falini for the first meeting on the topic.
There is a certain confidentiality regarding the report, but the three hypotheses for the new hospital at Villa Mosca would take into consideration: the expansion of the structure through the demolition of lot two in one case; the exploitation of the heliport area in another; the use of the pine forest, which should be cut down, in the latter case. But, as mentioned, for every possible solution analysed, the critical issues would be significant in an area considered saturated. For some, the findings drawn by the experts represent a first rejection of Villa Mosca. And this alerts those who fight for that site. Like the pro-Mazzini committee that read the mayor’s statements yesterday Gianguido D’Alberto a wake-up call. «A new phase opens, now we need to examine these design hypotheses and evaluate the critical issues exposed by the technicians. What’s at the end of the path? I can’t say that now. There could be a new city council, or there might not be one. The will of the October council was clear, but I also remember that the health institutions decide where a hospital is built”, D’Alberto told the Center. Domenico Bucciarelli, of the pro-Mazzini committee, says that it will meet shortly to examine the case: «I have not been able to read the report, because it has not yet been made public. But despite the pessimism expressed by the mayor, we on the committee believe that preliminarily the critical issues raised by the working group can be overcome, in consideration of the important spaces offered by the Mazzini site for a second level DEA. Consider the 600 million redevelopment of the Fatebenefratelli hospital on the Tiber island as an example. We remain confident for Villa Mosca, a site equipped with important and expensive infrastructures, located in an excellent environmental context, with a cost enormously lower than Piano d’Accio, an unsuitable location located outside the city”.
For the municipal councilor of Futuro In Franco Fracassa «where to build the new hospital cannot be decided by the technicians: there are always critical issues, on any site, and they can be overcome. I hope that the mayor keeps his word to the citizens to avoid havoc on our city. These are political, urban planning and not just health choices: the future of the city is at stake here”, comments Fracassa. For the president of the city council and exponent of the Democratic Party Alberto Melarangelo the opinion of the technicians «is not binding, but it is highly significant: we will study it in the commission and we will continue along the path of participation with the stakeholders. We will arrive at a summary, taking into account that the city council expressed itself unanimously in favor of Villa Mosca but also that the final decision lies with the Region and the Local Health Authority”, claims Melarangelo. «We did our part. I hope that there is no political exploitation, that we all work towards a second level hospital and that the Region and the local health authority reassure us about the funds”, concludes the prime minister.
