The mayoral candidate of the left, Fulvio Fellegaratogether with Marco Damianoformer majority municipal councilor of the city of the Festival when Maurizio Zoccarato governed at Palazzo Bellevue (both allies of Gianni Rolando, candidate of the compact centre-right, plus civic lists) and the councilor for culture Silvana Ormeafrom the Alessandro Mager team together with other civic lists, opened the cycle of live broadcasts of our “Election Time” column.

The election campaign of8 and 9 June to elect the “after Biancheri” has come to life. We will also vote for Europeans. There are 7 mayoral candidates, 17 lists presented, over 400 candidates. For a city like Sanremo, given that the inhabitants have dropped to 56 thousand, perhaps this is an exaggerated number of aspiring public administrators? Too many? Quantity is not always synonymous with quality. On the contrary. Without bothering Renzo Arbore and his song “The less we are, the better we are”, an old saying already warned “few, but good”. We’ll see. The wish, overused, is only one: may the best win.

At the start there are also good and interesting horses. After Fellegara it will be the turn of Gianni Rolando, then Alessandro Mager. Sanremo really needs to turn a new page. There is no need to look to the past, even if it should not be forgotten. You need to look at the present, what needs to be done, and quickly. Sanremo has potential that is a mortal sin not to use in the best possible way. However, it is necessary to change the register, whoever is elected must above all be transparent. Act in the sunlight. Those who are healthy and capable stay. For the others, he guesses tangled things, crafty people, not up to par, let’s stop here, they have to pack their bags. No ifs, no buts. Next one. There is no more time, too many people are disillusioned with politics, how municipalities, provinces and regions are administered. And why not, the State too. If it were the opposite, everything was fine, regular, constructive, there wouldn’t be almost 50% of Italians who prefer to desert the ballot boxes and polling stations. Vote today? Why? Times have changed, it’s true. But what do I see? What do they show me? Parties, politicians, even civic leaders with swollen wallets who “fight” for ideas, projects, visions useful to the community? To the young, to the elderly, to everyone, white, red, yellow, tall, short, fat, thin or, in growing numbers instead, do we find ourselves faced with figures, hitherto unsuspected characters who aim exclusively at “Cicero pro domo di lui”? And the others, the majority. Excuse the “stick to the tram” language.

Fulvio Fellegara, and we believe other candidates too, have the experience and what it takes to do well. However, it is necessary to convince the voters. Not always an easy task. For example, Fellegara clearly said that Sanremo must be inclusive, respectful of needs, differences, where every individual has the right to be himself, without fear or discrimination, find work, doctors who treat him if he needs it and more as required by the Constitution.

Marco Damiano has already been a city councilor with Zoccarato as mayor. He was interested in the Rotonda alla Foce, for example, he would like to continue the volleyball project. Silvana Ormea, councilor for culture with Biancheri as mayor, distinguished herself two years ago by organizing a flash mob against violence against women in the square in front of the Ariston with 100 protagonists all dressed in red. Her motto: humility, courage, determination. Many, rightly or wrongly, argue that from today things must change, “Stop this advertising campaign”, “Sanremo is not a supermarket”. Out with the programs and clarify how and when to solve the real, big problems necessary to return to the times when the city of the Festival and lemons was truly great. The potholes must be eliminated immediately by the Municipality because citizens, by paying taxes, have a sacrosanct right to them like the water and air they breathe. In short, ability, honesty, transparency. To the wise…
