PAVIA – Sound defeat for Stosa at the PalaRavizza in Via Treves. The rossoblù lasted only a quarter but then gave way clearly under the blows of the Lombards, more intense and physical than the Sienese team. The start is immediately favorable to the local team: Virtus misses some easy support from underneath with Pavia who starts again in transition scoring the points of 9-2 with Stonkus and Pesenato. The rossoblu are in the game and respond immediately with Calvellini and Lombardo who operate the Sienese counter break (11-12 at 6′). The match is balanced, Stosa remains ahead, but a triple from Apuzzo at the end puts Pavia ahead at the first siren. In the second period the match remains in balance: the rossoblu are unable to find the way to the basket from underneath with Diminic while the hosts rely on the experience of Ferri who scores 5 in a row for the 26-21 inside 6′ from the interval. Dal Maso brings Stosa back to -3 again, but a couple of triples from Ferri and Apuzzo allow the Pavia team to reach 36-27. The gap widens at the start of the third quarter when first Hidalgo from the center of the area and then Ferri from long range score a deadly 8-0 which allows Riso Scotti to gain a lead of 51-34. At the first real difficulty Stosa loosens up and suffers a 14-4 partial which cuts the Sienese’s legs short. Virtus manages practically nothing while Pavia goes on the velvet at the last break with a more than reassuring lead of 65-40. In the last quarter Stosa tries not to pull the plug but now the game is over: Pavia doesn’t stop until the end finding the baskets of the bracket with Gravaghi and Pesenato. Stosa tries but only two triples from Costantini and a few baskets from Dal Maso give at least some meaning to the final period. The final score is merciless: 83-58 in favor of Riso Scotti. The championship now stops for the Easter break and will resume for Stosa on Saturday 6 April at PalaCorsoni where Gazzada will be on stage. We need to recharge our batteries and get to work because the next 3 games will be decisive for the play-off race.
