More donations and a collection of plasma bags almost doubled compared to 2022.

These are some of the data from last year illustrated in Venosa where the 41st regional assembly of Avis Basilicata entitled “The choice that unites, networked donors for universal health” took place this morning.

Present in the Horatian town were hundreds of Avisini men and women arriving from all over the region, with the various section managers, in addition to the national president of Avis Gianpietro Briola, to the national secretary, Rocco Monetta, and to the coordinator and deputy coordinator of the national youth council Irene Oppi and Greta Pieracci.

An opportunity to take stock of the state of health of donation in Basilicata, present the data coming from the offices and provincial assemblies, illustrate the new projects that see the association involved in Basilicata and to thank the 18,842 members.

As for the numbers, 2023 was a better year than 2022, first of all because Avis Basilicata maintained the quantity of blood it needed, without going into shortage: from the data of the units of blood collected there is an increase of 273 bags compared to previous twelve months.

The plasma collected is 580 bags more than in 2022, equal to approximately 250 kilograms more.

The regional president of Avis Basilicata explained, Sara De Feudis:

“The significant increase in plasma bags collected in 2023, a clear increase compared to 2022, is also the result of the driving force of the ‘Plasma Project’ approved by the Basilicata Region two years after its presentation and the continuous discussions with regional officials.

The first phase of the project focused on the recruitment and training of healthcare personnel.

Now awaits us the phase of producing the material, of resuming collections even in those locations that are currently closed.”

During the meeting there was no lack of reference to the Civil Service, “now a strategic activity especially with regard to the intrinsic possibility of bringing the world of young people closer, of making our activities known, of allowing the experimentation of specific phases of management activities”.

He added De Feudis:

“Our patrol of 33 volunteers, operating in 25 locations, has been confirmed in all recent years. Furthermore, the coordination of general and specific training activities continued.

And the selection for next year has just been carried out which will see new lifeblood within the associative structure.

Two new locations have been accredited, Tito and Tricaricoand they are part of the project the Montescaglioso and Ruoti offices“.

During the work it then emerged that in 2022, the latest data available, there were 4 thousand new donors.

A good portion of these are in the 18-35 age group.

The health director highlighted in his report Domenico Cavaliere:

“In internal audits we have always found young people eager to collaborate, especially in terms of quality and improvement of national donation procedures, we need to take a further step forward, the quality system must become the heritage of the association and not a system for ‘experts’.

Young people, together with staff, can become a turning point, after appropriate training.

We have both the economic resources and the human resources.

Just put them at the center and connect, giving them the right space and prominence.”

Words of appreciation came from the national president of Avis, Gianpietro Briola:

“The assembly is always the moment of synthesis and highest comparison, the appointment in which to compare results, critical issues and strengths.

Basilicata it is a region that in its entirety has always been able to face and solve its own problemsobtain satisfactory results and look to the future with determination.

The data on donations and collections demonstrate this and the self-sufficiency in red blood cells preserved with the commitment of every donor and manager is an example of this.

Work done albeit with difficulty in a complex area and in an era of demographic decline and disaffection.

Together we must continue to grow, look to the future with optimism and continue to commit ourselves to the good and rights of every single patient.”
