Forlì also fails in the second “play-off” of the 5 consecutive in this championship final and loses further ground compared to the two most aggressive competitors: Carpi (1st with 59 points) and Ravenna (2nd with 57 points), now at +7 and +5 on the Galletti, achieved at the same time in third place by today’s opponents.
Match on the eve on difficult paper, against the strong but grumpy Emilian team and so it was put to the test of facts.
Willing but evanescent roosters, who pay for the chronic difficulty in realizing the opportunities created (not just the most obvious ones), while at the same time lending themselves to the opposition’s incursions.
Not that Lentigione played a transcendental match in terms of the game produced, from this point of view Mr. Antonioli’s men were much better, but they were able to take advantage of the chances (few to be honest) granted in the first half by the red and whites ( 3/3 at the end of the first 45′ for the guests!).
The round 0-3 at the interval does not in fact do justice to the hosts, who were guilty not only of the goals conceded, but also of not having taken advantage of some good chances built especially in the opening.
In the second half the changes ordered by the Forlì coach, even three, immediately give a signal of how the Galletti want to face the second part of the match, without however being able to reverse the inertia of the match. Indeed, faced with a big chance not exploited by the red and whites (Greselin), it is the guests who come closest to the fourth goal: first with Montipo’, who, face to face with Pezzolato, is unable to finish and then with Nanni, author of the decisive brace, which he heads wide from a few steps.
Forlì’s forcing, in addition to the 10 corners taken, eventually yielded the goal of the illusory hope of Tafa (76′) in the fray from a corner, but it was not enough to recover the result.
The match.
The Galletti started better and in the 8th minute they created a great opportunity on a maneuvered counterattack. Ball to Visani who catches Merlonghi from the left only in the area. The center forward attempts a flat flying deflection, but the conclusion is weak and central, with Rizzuto blocking.
Missed goal and conceded goal? This time yes!
After a few minutes, an incorrect through ball for Bonandi, preceded by Pari. The ball reaches Nanni after a couple of rebounds: control and a left-footed shot that strikes Pezzolato. 12′ 0-1!
Forlì felt the pinch and with rare cynicism Lentigione took advantage of it.
16′ free kick from the right: cross to the center and Formato heads it home to make it 0-2!
The Galletti play the game and the guests move their center of gravity back, even without suffering. In the 25th minute Pari, previously on duty, comes off injured after a tackle.
The red and whites never reach the conclusion, despite managing ball possession, and so Lentigione takes advantage of it. Following an incorrect disengagement by Drudi, it is Nanni (a brace for him) who takes off alone in front of Pezzolato, overtaking him with a sweet lob, which further freezes the “Morgagni”.
40′: 3-0 for the Emilians, a score on which, after 4′ of injury time, the half ends.
At the start of the second half Babbi (for Drudi), Banfi (for Pecci) and Graziani (for Visani) enter Forlì, with Antonioli trying everything, moving Gaiola to the center of defense and Greselin in the heart of midfield.
In Lentigione, however, striker Formato comes out and Bocchialini enters.
The Galletti continue to lead the way and could even shorten the lead with Greselin, who heads wide an assist from Bonandi.
Lentigione operates on the counterattack and with Montipó they would have the opportunity to close it definitively. Ill-advised horizontal pass by the red and whites, which the wind diverts in favor of Nanni. The playmaker serves his teammate, who sprints from his half of the pitch, but once he reaches Pezzolato he is forced to widen and the action fades.
A few minutes later, Nanni himself comes close to scoring a sensational poker, but his header goes wide.
The Galletti continue to press, commendable for their character and determination to do so even when the game is compromised, but they only get an avalanche of corners without success.
Babbi, from two steps away, shoots at Rizzuto and then a melee in front of the Emilian goal is quelled for a corner. Finally in the 76th minute here’s the high note.
Merlonghi’s corner from the left, directed towards the far post, on which Tafa and Nava pounce, the rebound deflects one of the two (Tafa? Nava?) and the ball goes to the bottom of the bag. 1-3!
It seems that there may be room to attempt a sensational comeback, with a good 20 minutes still to play. More scrums on corners and a big opportunity at the feet of Merlonghi, which the center forward doesn’t exploit.
In the 95th minute, after 5 minutes of injury time, the referee’s final whistle marked the second consecutive defeat in 5 days for the Galletti.
Goodbye dreams of glory? It seems so! …. It seems….
