In recent weeks, the soldiers belonging to all the offices of the Maritime District of Vieste, as part of the institutional prerogatives of supervision and control in the territory, have implemented a series of activities aimed at verifying compliance with the regulations in force on fishing , specifically the “flows” linked to the traceability of the fish product along the entire supply chain and the fight against illegal fishing.
As part of the aforementioned activity to combat the illegal exercise of fishing activity, a total of 1000 meters of trammel nets and no. 20 traps due to the lack of the required signals and indications required by national legislation; moreover, these illegal fishing tools constituted a danger to the safety of navigation.

Yesterday, March 27, following surveillance and control activities in the area, checks were also carried out on two different distribution operators in the fishing sector – in the Municipality of Lesina – who were issued two administrative reports for a total of 3,000 euros in violation of the obligations established by the rules on labeling and traceability and on the obligations relating to information to the final consumer.
The lack of the required mandatory documentation, relating to batches of fishery and aquaculture products, which must be traceable in all phases of production, transformation and distribution, from capture or harvesting to retail sale, also led to the seizure of the said fish product, specifically 1490 kg of bivalve molluscs (Chamelea Gallina).
The fish product, following a declaration of suitability for consumption by the veterinary service of the AUSL of Foggia, will be donated to charities in the area.
The Coast Guard, making all consumers aware of the need to always purchase products whose origin and quality is certified, informs that – in consideration of the upcoming Easter holidays – the activity along the fish supply chain, to protect health and the consumer , and the fight against illegal fishing will continue in the coming days.
