The one in Barile is among the oldest Via Crucis in Basilicata.
On stage the Good Friday, the Procession of the Mysteries it marries with the symbolism coming from Albanian reminiscences.
Divided into 25 groups, 117 participants – all chosen from among the locals – bring the Passio Christi to life.
They stand out among themselves the protagonists of the salient episodes of the Via Crucis – After Jesushere it comes the priests, the pious women, the Pharisees, the Madonna, the apostles – and particular characters alien to our religious culture: they are the Zingara next to the Zingarella and the Moro Together to Moretto to represent the danger, the unknown.
They precede the religious procession three centurions on horseback playing a trumpet – the work of local artisans like other accessories and costumes worn by the characters – and three little girls dressed in white, the Three Marys.
A girl in a black dress carries a banner bearing the signs of the Passion of Christ, While thirty-three girls with a purple dress remember the years of Jesus at the time of his death.
The appointment is for Friday 29 March at 2.30pm to Barile, through the streets of the ancient village, where the Via Crucis will be held – Sacred representation of the passion of Christ with living characters.
