A decidedly new look for the historic staircase in Via Pino di Agrigento, the one that leads to Piazza San Francesco under Via Atenea, which today has a decidedly more pleasant appearance. It is the result of one of the regeneration interventions of the historic center carried out thanks to the funds allocated by the regional department to local authorities.

In addition to this, the restoration of the railing and related concrete curb in via Plebis Rea near number 58 was also completed. And again: work has begun on the redevelopment of the stone cladding of Piazzetta San Giuseppe and Piazza Lena and the painting of the railings in via Garibaldi, at number 54 and from number 76 to number 100. The restoration of the asphalt is also planned in the sections of road that branch out from piazza Ravanusella to via Atenea, Vallicaldi, Cannameli, Caruana and Giambertoni.

And then, again in the historic center: the urban regeneration project of the Santa Croce district, for 10 million euros, is today in a services conference. To which are added the recovery of 35 apartments owned by the Municipality of Agrigento, for 4.9 million euros, close to the executive planning and assignment of works phase, and the conservative recovery of the main façade of the Town Hall.

“The redevelopment of the historic center – said mayor Franco Miccichè – is one of the priorities of our administrative program. And since we moved in we have spared no effort and determination in restoring livability and attractiveness to the ancient area of the city, above all for the purpose of protecting and enhancing the historical, artistic and cultural heritage it preserves”.

“The work of urban revitalization of the historic center continues – added the councilor for public works Gerlando Principato – which has been in a state of abandonment and decay for years. The objective is to reverse the process of depopulation of the area, to also make it a tourist destination with the resulting activities. I appreciate the constant contribution of commitment and effectiveness of the municipal technical offices, also aimed at intercepting and obtaining precious public funding”.
