Over the past few years, the Cespec (Centre of Studies on Contemporary Thought) of Cuneo, alongside other initiatives, such as the Summer School held every September, has organized a series of workshops, in collaboration with the Historical Institute of the Resistance and Contemporary Society in the province of Cuneo “Dante Livio Bianco”, on some central themes of today’s reflection in the geopolitical-religious field, in an interdisciplinary dimension, examining in succession the themes of populism, nationalism, fundamentalism and the relationship between religion and economy.

These initiatives, with free entry, were aimed both at an audience of teachers, with recognition as an updating initiative, and at a general audience eager for cultural in-depth analysis.

This year the workshop, entitled “China of the new millennium, between great transformations and global projection”, will take place in Cuneo, at the CDT Room (Largo Barale 1), in two sessions: one in the evening, Monday 8 April, at 8.45pm, and an afternoon session, Tuesday 9 April at 3.30pm.

“For some time now, on the new world scene, China has acquired an absolutely central importance in all fields – declares Stefano Sicardi, member of the Cespec board and Professor Emeritus of Constitutional Law -. It is therefore essential to deepen knowledge not only of aspects related to politics and economics but also to its ancient culture and its impact on today’s reality”.

“It will also be a particular opportunity, for the younger generations, to delve deeper into international geopolitical issues covered in a teaching perspective aimed at the complexity of the globalized world, partly already addressed in similar disciplines in high school and university courses” concludes Angela Michelis, president of Cespec.

With the contribution of the CRC Foundation, some institutional, academic, associative and cultural entities in the Cuneo area will sponsor the initiative, such as the Municipality of Cuneo, the Interdiocesan Theological Study and the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Fossano, the Classical and Scientific High School “Pellico-Peano”, the UNESCO Club of Cuneo and the Lions Club of Cuneo also promoting the involvement of high school and university students. After having addressed the delicate issue of nationalism and conflicts in Europe in the 21st century in the 2023 edition, we intend to shift attention to a topic that is increasingly at the center of the contemporary scene, declining it on different levels: the geopolitical level, which sees the China is central to the reorganization of international balances and is expanding globally; the economic-social plan, from the impact of Chinese power on world monetary balances to the transformation of Chinese society in terms of wealth and lifestyles; the cultural and religious level, with evolving communities favored or strongly opposed by the regime.

In this context, the public evening on April 8 aims to frame the topic by analyzing the current situation between China, the United States and Europe. In the afternoon session of April 9, we will address issues related to the economy, law and Chinese politics today, as well as the religious and cultural aspects of China today.

Among the speakers who will take part in the works: Alessandro Aresu (Limes), geopolitical analyst and expert in public strategies and policies; Antonio Talia (Radio24), investigative and foreign affairs journalist, was a Beijing correspondent between 2007 and 2013; Gianmaria Ajani (University of Turin), Professor of Comparative Private Law and former Rector of the same University (2013-2019); Elena Consiglio (University of Palermo), researcher in Philosophy of Law, author, together with Angelo Rinella, of the volume “Cina”, ed. The Mill 2023; Stefania Stafutti (University of Turin), full professor of Chinese Language and Literature, mainly deals with modern and contemporary Chinese literature and Cultural Studies; Attilio Andreini (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), professor of Chinese and South-East Asian languages and literatures.
