ROME – The ADM Directorate for Lazio and Abruzzo and the Lazio Regional Command of the Guardia di Finanza, thanks to the joint local action of the Roma2 Customs Office and the Provincial Command of Rome, have seized, in a special operation to combat illegal currency trafficking in the last month, over 66 thousand euros of currency at Fiumicino airport, with the verification of 80 violations regarding the cross-border movement of cash, for a total of over one million euros found. Among the methods of concealing currency, we note that of banknotes hidden inside a drum of washing detergent, or sealed inside coffee packages. The special operation was carried out thanks to an accurate analysis activity which made it possible to trace routes potentially used for the illegal trafficking of currency, which was about to be exported without the mandatory declaration for the transfer of amounts equal to or greater than 10 thousand euros , as required by EU legislation. The result is the result of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2023, at national level, between the Customs and Monopolies Agency and the Guardia di Finanza, aimed at improving the coordination of activities in the territory of competence, with particular attention to currency control at the embarkation and disembarkation points of passengers traveling to and from abroad. photo: ADM and Guardia di Finanza press office. tvi/com 28-Mar-24 10:51
