Caritas Catania, the Lions donate over 300 kg of food

CATANIA – Concrete help to those in difficulty. Over 300 kg of food, oil and baby products were donated by the Etna Lions to Caritas of Catania. She was the delegate for humanitarian emergencies Carmela Pisano with a representation of the Lions clubs of the V and VI districts, chaired by Matteo Cannizzaro And Mario Pavone to deliver the food to the deputy director of Caritas Salvatore Pappalardo. A simple but concretely effective gesture in support of those who can’t make it.

In Catania, Caritas records alarming data on poverty with an increase of at least 9,200 interventions for the entire year 2023 on food needs.

On an average of 500 meals a day, this increased to over 530 daily interventions for the canteen in addition to daily shopping packages for children with baby food, biscuits and more. The total average therefore rises to around 700 food interventions per day.

There are many cases of new poverty that are often ‘invisible’: they are those who are ashamed to ask for help from Caritas or other voluntary associations. These are often families who have closed their small commercial or artisan businesses, people between 45 and 60 who cannot make ends meet.

For all the vulnerable groups, Lions International, with its service clubs spread across the territory, is increasingly a sentinel of hardship and a promoter of a solidarity network.
