03.28.2024 – 10:22 – “My applause for the great promptness of action at patrol on night duty Wednesday 20th March that, during a check near Garibaldi square, noticed a motorcycle traveling along Viale D’Annunzio towards Piazza Garibaldi, without stopping at the red light. The promptness of the officers made it possible to chase and block a person who was driving positive alcohol test and with license revoked” so the Councilor for Security Policies Caterina de Gavardo. The officers, two from the Motor Vehicle Department and one from the Special Interventions Unit, in fact, initially ordered the party to stop and, if at the moment the motorcyclist made a sign to slow down apparently to stop, he suddenly resumed his journey at full speed, taking the via Vasari In the opposite direction of circulationdodging some vehicles that were passing by and that approached as much as possible to avoid a head-on collision with the vehicle.
Afterwards, the man continued on via Parini and realizing that he was about to be reached by the operators, he abandoned the motorcycle and continued on foot running in Via Caccia towards Largo Barriera but after about thirty metres, noticing that he was still being followed, he tried to suddenly change direction with the hope of losing his tracks.
One of the officers managed to intercept the man by attempting to immobilize him but the latter, attempting to free himself and maintaining a strong state of agitation, pushed repeatedly also the other officers who arrived, in an attempt to get away. The operators therefore safely adopted all possible precautions to try to calm things down and to protect the safety of themselves and the man, as he continued to have hostile attitudes.
The 45-year-old man, with the help of another patrol that arrived on site, was accompanied to the barracks San Sebastiano, where he was subjected to blood alcohol tests which gave positive results with both tests result exceeding 4 times the limit allowed. He was then referred to the Judicial Authority for criminal driving violations state of inebriation (Highway Code art. 186 c. 2 letter c) erexistence as a public official (Penal Code, art. 337).
Finally, the party was also charged with administrative violations drunkenness (Penal Code, art. 688), passing a red light at the traffic light (Highway Code, art. 41/146), non-compliance with the alt (Highway Code, art. 192) and, following further investigations, the report for the violation of the art. 216 c.6 del Traffic Laws as it was ascertained that he was driving even though his license had been revoked; the motorcycle was then subjected to administrative detention for 3 months as required by current legislation.
