Tutor in the Giovanni XXIII Gallery, it’s a rain of fines
Descriptive text here

The tutor inside the Giovanni XXIII Gallery does not forgive. Over two hundred thousand motorists and motorcyclists have been fined for exceeding the imposed speed limit, i.e. 70 km/h.

The digital and automatic system that controls and detects the average speed on a stretch of road of established length, the Celeritas 1506, arrived in the north Rome tunnel a year ago. Installed with the aim of lowering speed limits and increasing road safety, all after the complete redevelopment of the infrastructure opened twenty years ago.

After announcements and a long wait the tutors were installed and activated. The system thus made it possible to detect on average almost 560 violations per day, with an average of 23 per hour.

The Celeritas mechanism is present in three distinct sections of the Tunnel precisely to take into account the intermediate turns along the route. The system, in fact, is able to measure the average crossing speed of vehicles from the entry point to the exit point of each section, in order to make an accurate assessment of the speed maintained along the route.
Anyone who drove faster than 75 km/h was therefore fined (the 70 established as the limit plus the 5 tolerance established by law). Also pay attention to those vehicles that access the tunnel from the intermediate accesses.

How the “tutors” work in the Giovanni XXIII Gallery

Speeding fines

The fines range from 42 to 173 euros for speeds under 10 km/h, up to 3,382 for those who exceed the limit by 60 km/h, therefore driving through the tunnel at 130. Then there are fines of between 173 and 694 euros for those who travel between 10 and 40 km/h more; 543 and 2,170 for those who press the accelerator between 40 and 60 km/h above. The reduction of points on the driving license is added to the financial penalty. And if motorists cry, the municipal coffers laugh.
