“The issue of deteriorated asphalt is certainly deeply felt by the citizens of Sanremo, as is the case in practically all Italian municipalities”.

These are the words of Alessandro Mager, candidate for mayor for four civic lists in Sanremo. “The problem is serious – he continues – because the city has a municipal road network of approximately 300 linear kilometres. To intervene effectively on the entire network, it is estimated that more than ten million euros would be needed, followed by at least three million euros each year for normal maintenance. It’s money that the Municipality simply doesn’t have. The problem is therefore not technical or political but economic. As you now know, I intend to face my commitment in a rational way, without indulging in easy electoral promises”.

“The first step of the future mayor – continues Mager – will therefore have to be a profound analysis of the municipal budget to identify new resources, also through contributions that the State recognizes for investments aimed at the extraordinary maintenance of municipal roads, to intervene immediately in situations that constitute an immediate danger for citizens, and to launch a multi-year program for the arrangement of all roads, giving the same dignity to the central areas and those of the hamlets”.

“On an operational level – he concludes – it will finally be necessary to optimize the planning of the works with greater synergy between the municipal offices and the companies in charge of carrying out public or private works that affect traffic, in order to avoid those situations in which a newly resurfaced asphalt becomes subject of new interventions. At the same time it will be necessary to plan non-urgent interventions so as not to interfere with the holiday periods and the greater influx of tourists into the city”.
