The percentages already appear in all the newspapers, there are those who put Lopetegui in pole position (like the Gazzetta and not only) and those like the Corriere della Sera who talk about Farioli as the favorite but the entire AC Milan coach left some time ago and has had an acceleration later the five days of flop between the elimination from the Europa League and the knockout in the derby. Pioli’s adventure is over, not even an impetuous finish and the confirmation of second place can save him from the bench. The fans are already agitated but the web has chosen: yes to Conte, everyone’s favourite, and above all no to Lopetegui, the least liked.
Who decides on the next Milan coach
The last word belongs to Gerry Cardinale who, however, will listen to the opinion of the “triumvirate” composed of Ibrahimovic, Moncada and Furlani. The latter and the Redbird owner himself are pushing for Lopetegui, while Ibra would like van Bommel. However, Milan is looking for an international coach, good at working with young people, who does not impose his point of view but shares the transfer choices. Obviously there is also among the possible candidates Antonio Conte, as well as Paulo Fonseca, Domenico Tedesco, Mark van Bommel, Christophe Galtier, Thiago Motta and other.
Lopetegui chose Milan
In the meantime, Lopetegui has given Milan his preference over West Ham’s – richer – offer and plans to coach in Milan soon. Compared to Fonseca, another strong candidate, and Van Bommel he achieved more results and frequented more high-level benches. Lopetegui won the 2019-20 Europa League – in the final against Inter – he led Spain for almost two years without losing a match (2016-2018) and was on the bench of Real Madrid, even if the merengues don’t have good memories of him.
The fans take a pro-Conte stand
On the web the Rossoneri fans have made their choice. Yes to Conte and no to Lopetegui. The comments are pouring in: “Lopetegui will last until December at the latest, save this tweet. It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen to me”, or: “We want Conte at Milan. Don’t you dare show up with EL CAGON because you would have ALL the fans against you. ALL!” and also: “If this Lopetegui came it would mean that Ibra doesn’t count for anything. He would like to say that the Moncada-Furlani line has prevailed and that we will continue with the Pellegrino-Romero bets. These could really be dark times.”
While the hashtag “Nopetegui” is very popularthere are those who write: “No no no I hope that what I’m reading around is a joke.. if it’s true I’m taking a nice break from Milan.. there’s a limit to everything come on, what a shame, we want Conte and not Lopetegui” and then: “Milan doesn’t understand that the full stadium was brought back by the enthusiasm of a winning project and it takes a moment to bring it half empty every Sunday. Lopetegui is not a winner, Conte is a winner” and finally: “If Conte goes to coach Manchester United with a salary of 20 million and a transfer market of 300 then we cannot speak of regret for Milan. If, however, he goes to Napoli (without the Champions League and with half of Milan’s turnover) for 6.5 million, it’s better that I don’t talk.”
