Descriptive text here

“Marco Manzo a Santa Maria dei Miracoli” is the title of the installation itinerary, organized by Il Cigno GG Edizioni, which can be visited for free in the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, in Piazza del Popolo in Rome from 21 March to 31 August 2024 .

The exposition

Works in white Carrara marble, hands of women and men testifying to violence against women, plus some unpublished works: the white marble sculpture “The Peaceful Magdalene, the Glorious Cross of Miracles, which will be acquired in the artistic heritage of the same church These are just some of the “examples” that can be admired in the exhibition. And also a “Glorious Cross of Miracles” in monumental format, approximately 4 meters high, created with mixed techniques and materials, and two installations depicting two hands, “The hands of crucifixion”.

“In the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Piazza del Popolo, Marco Manzo’s sculptures are accompanied, in surprising and perfect harmony, by biblical texts. Even if written in ancient times and in environments culturally distant from ours, the biblical quotations, such as “Marco Manzo’s works testify to an experience that unites the experience of human beings of all times and places”, explains Father Ercole Ceriani, rector of the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli.

The artist

Marco Manzo, visual artist, tattoo artist, sculptor and designer, works in both the fields of design and sculpture. During his career he managed to successfully make his mark also in the world of tattooing, a sector of which he is a precursor and main exponent, in particular of the ornamental style.

“The ornamental style, of which I am recognized as a precursor – explains Marco Manzo – has as its main purpose that of redesigning the body or sculpture, streamlining its forms and accentuating its strengths. The starting point is therefore the body and not the drawing. Thanks to the study of individual anatomy, the tattoo therefore does not become the starting point to which the body must adapt, but a consequence of the body itself. It is precisely from this that the drawing is born.
