Trees in Piazza Salotto: work starting tomorrow – Pescara

PESCARA. The trees return to Piazza Salotto. The news announced by the mayor Carlo Masci in recent weeks, after the project was given the go-ahead by the council, it is now starting to materialize as work will begin tomorrow and should be completed in about ten days.
The mayor himself gave the news, as well as illustrating with the green councilor Gianni Santilli the type of plants that will be planted, and the areas, takes stock of the entire intervention relating to greenery in the city centre. In particular in Corso Umberto and in Piazza Sacro Cuore, «where the new greenery has already replaced the holm oaks that have been dead for years».
And he explains: «In Piazza Salotto, in the living room of Pescara, the Municipality will have 18 trees planted, with an investment of 110 thousand euros, continuing the path we have started to change the face of this square, where we have already created a musical fountain and we have the flooring of the porticoes was fixed, with the Palladian tiles refurbished in the north area and the new tiles in the south area, closing all the craters”.
«I remember», the mayor remarks, «that we also activated a new LED wall, which replaced the old clock, and I underline the importance of the existence of the Urban box at that point, which through the management entrusted to the university “d ‘Annunzio” becomes a point of reference and attraction for young people. In short, many steps to bring this square back to life and eliminate, little by little, the gray that accompanies it.”
«But we’re not finished», announces Masci, «because, after the trees, we also want to intervene to lighten up that whole dark plain, perhaps with some light inserts. We will do it in the next council session”, he promises, aiming for a second mandate after the vote on 8 and 9 June. The greenery project, presented by Masci together with councilor Santilli and already illustrated to traders in view of its implementation, involves the planting under the Arlecchino palace (north side of the square) of new tree species arranged in a row in the north-east area of Piazza Salotto using five specimens of “Palma Washingtonia” alternating with ten evergreen holly and chestnut leaves. Where there was Toyo Ito’s Chalice plant, near the Urban box, a large flowerbed will be created in which there will be three trees (Parrotia persica, Carob ceratonia siliqua, Ginkgo boliba) and two camellias.
«The citizens have been asking us for this for some time», continues Masci, «because Piazza Salotto was and is bare: with this intervention it changes its face and looks towards Corso Umberto which today appears transformed: turning your gaze towards the mountains you can already see that the appearance is radically renewed, with many new trees: there are 184, plus 2,300 shrubs”.
