“Unfortunately we have not been able to renew our licensing agreement with Siae. The protection of the copyrights of composers and artists is an absolute priority for us and for this reason, starting today, we will start the procedure to remove the songs of the Siae repertoire within our music library”. This was stated by a spokesman for Meta, the parent company of Facebook.

“We believe it is a value for the entire music industry to allow people to share and connect on our platforms using the music they love,” continues the spokesperson. “We have licensing agreements in over 150 countries around the world and we will continue to strive to reach an agreement with Siae that satisfies all parties” he continues.

Songs that are not part of the Siae repertoire will continue to be available in the Meta music library. The non-renewal of the agreement with Siae will have an impact on Reels (both on Facebook and Instagram), on the Instagram Feed and on the Stories of both platforms. On Facebook, impacted content will be blocked. On Instagram, impacted content will be silenced unless users decide to replace the audio by selecting an audio track available in the catalog.
