And definitely among the most convincing views in the city. Let’s take the US newspaper Wwd: “This perfect collection dazzled, proving that the designer is a master of chic evening trouser suits and elegant red carpet gowns.”
Even if he hadn’t written it in his notes to the collection, Armani’s message can still be understood: responding to the darkness of so much that happens around us with the joy of these young women of his, to whom the designer makes an unusual concession to transparencies. Even soft, long, embroidered men’s trousers change to the status of pure femininity. Column bustier dresses or pearl-encrusted slip dresses lose any tragedy and leave the feeling that anyone could wear them and feel like a goddess.
Almost 50 years of fashion without ever slowing down, actually pressing the accelerator. And all this on the eve of his 90th birthday, which he claims he doesn’t want to celebrate but which he will celebrate on July 11th, reportedly with a party with close relatives and friends. But what better cake than the success here in Paris decorated with the opening of the Armani building, at 21 rue Francois Premier, a stone’s throw from Avenue Montaigne? A 2000 square meter building from 1864 renovated respecting every original centimeter (from the stucco to the inlaid marble to the gold and wood).
It will house the atelier with the haute couture collections and the offices, including that of the designer which has a large fireplace and a desk that is a jewel of mother-of-pearl mosaics. Not to mention the “big project” next October: show and inauguration of the Armani luxury residence in New York. And, beyond the monumental effect of all the work, it is the planning and enthusiasm of this man that amazes. Of a chronological age which, let’s face it, seems to have been lost track of.
