The mental health of younger people

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, young people were among those most penalized by the period of restrictions and social isolation that followed. Various international organizations such as WHO, Unicef and the European Commission’s Joint Research Center – JRC, have carried out various studies in this regard, bringing to light data on mental and emotional health difficulties: 8% of children worldwide (5-9 years old) and 14% of adolescents (10-19 years old) live with a mental health problem; 35% of 13-year-olds in Europe report low mood, nervousness and psychosomatic symptoms more than once a week; depression and anxiety disorders are among the top five causes of illness; Suicide is the leading cause of death among adolescents (10-19 years) in low- and middle-income countries and the second in high-income countries after road accidents. The 2024 call announced by the Ganassini Institute intends to offer concrete support to all those associations that help children and young people overcome fragility and uncomfortable situations.
