AOSTA, 27 MAR – Almost three years after the events, the trial of former MP Sara Cunial (M5s and then Misto), accused of refusing to provide information on her identity, ended with a seven-month prison sentence personal – charge from which she was acquitted -, contempt and threat to a public official. The single judge of the Aosta court Marco Tornatore made the suspension of the sentence subject to the payment of damages quantified at four thousand euros towards the civil party. Prosecutor Francesco Pizzato had asked for an eight-month sentence and for the transmission of documents to the prosecutor’s office to be considered for perjury against four defense witnesses. “During the trial – said the public prosecutor – the criminal responsibility for the disputed facts clearly emerged, that is, for providing the personal details and for having insulted and threatened the financial policeman”. The episode dates back to 24 April 2021, on the occasion of a demonstration against Dad in the center of the Aosta Valley capital. According to the Aosta prosecutor’s office, before going on stage at the event, Cunial would have railed against a financier. At the time the region was in the red zone and the deputy – according to the reconstruction of the investigators – had been caught drinking beer with eight other people, without distancing, outside a place which was then closed for five days due to violation of the anti-Covid regulations. “I am a parliamentarian and I enjoy immunity” she would have told the two financiers who had asked her for a document. Under the stage, he then provided his parliamentarian card, but shortly afterwards he snatched it from the soldier’s hand, telling him “you should be ashamed” and again “if you go back to the boy to make him close the bar, I’ll ruin you”. According to the defense, the testimonies were all genuine and not mendacious and “the climate of that historical moment must be remembered, it was difficult. The rules were ambiguous and difficult to interpret”. (HANDLE).
